A fire has ripped through Midlands Campworld & Safari Centre in Pietermaritsburg, leaving little to nothing of the establishment behind. According to the Maritzburg Sun, the cause of the fire remains unknown, although the severity can be pinned down to exploding gas bottles and other flammable equipment stored at the Campworld branch.   The fire has since been contained by emergency personnel, and the company has begun the long and arduous process of assessing the damage. According to Caravan & Outdoor Life staffer Brian Jefferies, owner Don Lund plans to rebuild his business as soon as possible, despite losing most of his stock.

One of South Africa’s biggest manufacturers of off-road caravans, Bush Lapa, has opened a brand-new showroom where you can view their impressive range. The new showroom, which officially opened at the start of February, is situated on the R101 between Paarl and Klapmuts in the Western Cape, less than 15km from the factory. Most of the Bush Lapa range is permanently on show, and if you like what you see, you can order on the spot and put down your deposit. There is more than enough space to set up a caravan on the grass outside the property, and the

Loftus Caravan City has obtained the import and distribution rights for Swift Caravans, the UK’s largest manufacturer of touring Caravans, Motorhomes and Holiday Homes. The first two units – a single-axle Atlantic model and a double-axle Coastline – arrived in South Africa in mid-February, with one heading to Durban, and the other to Loftus in Randburg, Gauteng. Although both models come standard with a payload of just over 200kg, Woody Loftus told Caravan & Outdoor Life that they are upgrading the caravans to give local owners a bigger payload. Swift caravans are built to the highest European specifications and trends,

Just four months after launching a brand new Gypsey Lite, Jurgens has revealed a pop-top version of the little caravan. The Gyspey Lite was reintroduced in the last quarter of 2017, five years after production on the model stopped. The latest model has a Tare of just 590kg, and with a GVM of 750kg and fitted with run-in brakes, it can be towed by almost any vehicle on the market (Tare over 750kg). The low GVM also allows anyone with a regular B license to legally tow the caravan. The roof on the newly-revealed model does not pop up completely

Loftus Caravan City is now also stocking Bush Lapa caravans. This exciting move comes shortly after South Africa’s biggest caravan dealer also brought the Sensation brand to their showroom. Woody Loftus told Caravan & Outdoor Life: “We have been appointed as the official Bush Lapa dealer for Johannesburg.  We received our first three Bush Lapas in December, and they were sold in less than a week!” Loftus Caravans now stock an incredible range of on- and off-road caravans, including Jurgens, Gypsey, Sprite, Jurgens Safari, Sensation and Bush Lapa, as well as their own custom light-weight caravan, the Loftus Cub.
