Silwerstrand Caravan Park is a must-visit for all of our readers that enjoy the outdoors in a safe environment.
The entrance to this campsite is just before you enter the picturesque town of Robertson in the Western Cape. We’ve been there quite a few times, and each visit ensures that we come back again, such is the beauty of this campsite set on the Breede River. The resort is owned and managed by Karin and Koben Kotze, who also run the renowned Montagu Caravan Park just up the R62.
When you are situated this close to a large waterway, you are afforded all sorts of watersports, canoeing and fishing if you prefer to nod off on the banks of the river. A waterside picnic is a firm favourite for holidaymakers, as is the traditional South African braai. The tasty aroma of chops and wors on the braai just adds to the wonderful flavour to this campsite. Don’t forget to take along your dog, because Silwerstrand is pet-friendly. Simply make a prior arrangement with the reservations office to bring along your happy hound.
The stands are large and all have power points and shared taps. The ablutions are clean and neat and there are laundry facilities (washing machine and tumble drier) and a scullery. If you want to get out and about you’re in for a treat. The area is famous for its vineyards and wineries that produce some of the best wines in South Africa. Take the short drive into the historical town of Robertson, where you will a host of interesting venues such as good restaurants, art galleries and antique shops. The Robertson Museum market is held on the first Saturday of each month.
