It is nice to see a resort like Richards Bay Caravan Park, which is already a popular seaside holiday destination, continue to upgrade. It’s no surprise that Richards Bay achieved 3rd place (KwaZulu-Natal) in our Readers’ Resort of the Year 2016 awards.
Set in an ever green lush environment with excellent weather, perfect for families and pensioners all year round, the campsite has in the past year improved even more by adding new facilities such as their “big five” hall with an entertainment bar, and a games room with an adjoining TV room for those who want to watch sports or series.
The latest addition to their resort is a BMX track! The children will have hours of fun driving around the neatlybuilt course. The track is lined with tyres to clearly demarcate where the young bikers are allowed to ride. Let your kids test out their bicycle skills around corners, up small sand hills, through dips and even wooden bridges!
As if this isn’t enough to keep the young ones busy, there is a playground and games room, puttputt, life-size chess, a snooker room with full size table, and a TV. You can also have some more adventurous fun by joining in for a game of paint ball game – the course is part of the resort! There is a take-away at the pool area, and a very nice tea garden with a built-in braai

Richards Bay have also upgraded the ablutions, and regular checks are made by the staff to keep it clean. Besides this they have a fully stocked store with a seasonal take-away shop right next to the swimming pool, surrounded by a children’s entertainment area that has a life-size chess board, volley ball, trampolines and jungle gym. For the ladies they have a beauty salon within walking distance of the park.
If you want to head down to the beach, Richards Bay Caravan Park supplies you with a tag to allow you to use a private gate on the eastern edge of the camp, that gives you direct access to the beach.
For those interested in birding there is a large number of birds to see in the park. Richards Bay Caravan Park has 261 well-grassed stands, plenty of trees for shade, and all the stands have 20 amp electricity, a braai and a water tap nearby.
The reception staff are very friendly and will arrange to have your tent put up when you arrive. There are a total of eight ablution blocks throughout the park, which have also recently been upgraded, with a total of 54 showers and 12 baths. Laundry facilities with washing machines and tumble driers are also available. The resort has electric fencing and 24-hour security.
