Conqueror trailers are made by a company with a history in the military, and it really shows in this tough off-roader. While I didn’t put the trailer through anything like what I’m sure it can handle, I got a good idea of how capable it would be in rough terrain.
The Conqueror Comfort has a solid beam braked axle, fitted with leaf springs, heavy duty shock absorbers, and cast-iron couplers with integrated auto-reverse brakes. But the sturdy base of the van is the chassis (designed in-house) – all parts are hot-dip galvanised, and welding is kept to an absolute minimum since most parts are bolted together.
Even though the Conqueror Comfort is a family unit which could sleep 4 people: two on the double bed, and two in the side-room (bring your own stretcher or camping mattress) I managed to set up the side room by myself very easily. And, while the full awning of the van goes all around and covers 49 square metres, I was feeling waylaid by my bronchitis I didn’t even attempt this on my own.
If you’re into cooking in the bush, the unique L-shaped kitchen is a dream come true. On opening the trailer’s rear door, you’ll find a slideout drawer system containing a two-plate stove, cutlery and crockery hatches, twin washing basins, and counter space.
There’s also loads of space for groceries in the trailer’s side hatches behind fold-down doors that double as counter space, and even a built-in drinks cabinet. A high performing 80L fridge/freezer is installed on a roll-out rail system in a side hatch. The fully-automatic geyser (gas or 220V) ensures hot and cold water and draws on the 150L water tanks.
Finally, the Conqueror Comfort has designated mountings for a camping table, gas bottles, jerrycans , spade, axe, braai grid and your spare wheel.
