How did you come to buy this caravan?
Before taking delivery of our brand new Devee on the first of August this year, we owned a Jurgens Palma. We were very happy with our Palma, but because of age and my worsening shoulder problems, the pop-up roof became too heavy for us to set up on a regular basis − so we began to search for a smaller, conventional, caravan to replace it. Our preference was the Exclusive; but, unfortunately, this was too heavy to be towed by our Mitsubishi Colt 2.8.

It was on a trip to Island Lake Holiday Resort in March that we spotted a Sensation Caravan that really sparked our interest. This caravan, the Sensation Vee, was a lot larger than the van we were looking for, and also too heavy for our towcar; but, after speaking to Riaan and his wife Loretta from Sensation, we discovered that they also produce a smaller model − the Devee. And, now, just a couple months later, we are on the road in one of our very own!

How did you customise your Devee?
The best thing about the Devee is that is has all the features of a large caravan, such as the aircon, bathroom and large fridge, but is small enough for us to tow. Also, instead of a pop-up roof, it has a conventional caravan roof which is high enough for us to be able to stand upright under it. The kitchen is a slider kitchen which comes out of the side of the caravan, which means that we save a lot of space inside.

We had a few changes in mind, and the folk at Sensation were very happy to accommodate us. We chose to get rid of the shower, as it took up quite a bit of space, and we are happy to make use of the ablution facilities wherever we go. We did, however, need a proper toilet on board, and not just a Porta Potti. And, by moving the fridge to the other side of the caravan, we were also able to make more room for our queen-sized island bed – with plenty of room to move around either side.

Ours is only the fourth Devee they have built so far, and it was great to be able to customise our caravan to suit our needs exactly.

What is your caravanning background?
We have been proud caravanners for almost 30 years. Since we bought our first Sprite in 1986, we haven’t looked back. Our caravans have taken us all over South Africa, allowing us to explore many different parts of the country. The Devee is the fourth caravan we’ve owned and we look forward to many more adventures in it!
