Let’s Be Honest – Having an Oven in your Caravan is the Ultimate Glamping Experience

While your neighbours are fighting with a half-lit skottel and dropping their wors into the sand, you’re over there casually baking garlic bread and roasting a chicken like you’re starring in an episode of MasterChef: Bush Edition.

Having an oven in your caravan means you no longer have to survive on burnt braai meat and instant noodles that taste suspiciously like regret. After all, once you reach a certain age, you’ll soon realise that campers cannot live on braaivleis alone!

If you had an oven, you could make pizza, muffins, scones, lasagne, or even sticky toffee pudding – right there in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly, that “roughing it” trip looks a lot more like “glamping with class.”

It’s also the perfect marriage counsellor too – because nothing diffuses campsite tension quite like the smell of freshly baked bread wafting through the air. Forget flowers; warm pastries fix everything!

And when the weather turns sour and the wind howls like a banshee through your campsite, you’ll be smugly sitting inside – cosy, dry, and enjoying freshly baked brownies and scones – while everyone else is chasing their gazebos across the park.

The Problem

Like we said before, when you’re out camping, there’s only so much braai and meat anyone can eat. When we asked campers what they enjoyed most about returning from their adventures, the majority said a home-cooked meal was top of their list. That got us thinking about the range of cooking appliances people use in their caravans – and at home too.

The main problem is that most modern electric cooking appliances aren’t built with caravanners or campers in mind. That’s why we don’t often see ovens, air fryers, or pressure cookers in abundance within our outdoor fraternity, compared to the culinary comforts of home.

Primarily, the reason most of us don’t have ovens, air fryers, or snackwich machines in our caravans is quite simple – they’re too heavy, bulky and consume far too much electricity to be practical for camping.

In a caravan or motorhome, space, weight, 220V power, and accessibility are all in short supply.

So, what are your choices for better home cooked meals in your Caravan?

The Solution

Sure, we get it — not everyone can pack (or invite) Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver along for their trip to do the cooking. That’s just not feasible. Nor is it practical to carry multiple appliances just to have the right tool when hunger (or inspiration) strikes.

While camping at Dube Game Reserve a few years ago, we met an elderly couple from Benoni who had the entire caravan section of the park salivating in anticipation over their Remoska venison casserole.

The smell was so mouth-wateringly good, we simply had to investigate what they were using — and how!

The product was a Remoska, and it was truly remarkable, as you’ll soon read below.

What is a Remoska, and why would I need one in my caravan?

A Remoska is a portable all-in-one pot cooker that bakes, roasts, and cooks meals much like a regular household oven – only way better. It’s up to 80% more energy efficient, cooks healthier meals, and is super easy to use, clean, and maintain.

Plus, a Remoska only weighs 3Kg! So you don’t ever have to worry about your payload weight.

It runs on standard 220V AC power and uses only 400W–580W of electricity per hour — easy enough to run from your resort power point (standard three-prong plug) or a 1.2 KVA inverter and above if you have an off-grid solar caravan setup.

You can use it in your caravan for a wide range of home-cooked meals — and you can also use it at home to save on your electricity bill.

🎥 Watch the video below to see how we tested our Remoska in our caravan, and why we still recommend it to this very day!

Its versatility allows you far greater control and freedom over the type of meals you prepare. You can bake pies, garlic bread, chicken curry, desserts, pastries, and even freshly baked scones! Basically, anything you’d cook in a conventional oven – you can make in a Remoska.

And the fact that it only uses 400–580W of electricity means it’s even more economical than gas or independently electrified (pay-as-you-go) caravan sites!

That’s exactly why we upgraded to Remoska, which both spouses can use.

Can I use my Remoska at home too?

Absolutely! In fact, we use ours at home frequently – and it saves us around R300 per month on our electricity bill!

Remember, a Remoska is like a mini portable oven – with  emphasis on portable. Unlike your air fryer, which usually lives on top of your kitchen counter creating clutter and limiting prep space, a Remoska can be easily stored in your pots and pans drawer when not in use.
