Onverwags Vakansie Oord

Onverwags Vakansie Oord

Tucked away just 18 kilometres from Brits in the North West province, Onverwags Vakansie Oord offers a peaceful bushveld escape on a private game farm near Dikhololo.

With game viewing, birdwatching, and plenty of space for the kids to play, it’s an ideal spot for nature-loving families and couples looking for a quiet camping getaway with a few extra comforts.

The Campsites
There are 42 campsites at Onverwags, varying in size to accommodate everything from compact camping setups to larger caravans and trailers. The terrain is a mix of grass and earth, so it’s a good idea to bring a netted groundsheet to protect the grassed areas.

Some stands are shaded, and all come with:
Electricity (shared poles – bring a 15m+ extension cord)
Water taps nearby
Braai facilities – just bring your own grid

Most of the sites use the communal ablutions, which are well-kept and have hot water, showers, flushing toilets, and basins. For those wanting a little extra privacy, three of the stands come with their own private bathrooms.

There’s also a scullery area for washing up, and although there’s no dedicated laundry facility, the resort does have communal amenities to make your stay comfortable.

Facilities and Fun
The focus at Onverwags Vakansie Oord is on family-friendly fun and relaxed, no-fuss bushveld charm. Activities include:

A cold splash pool, a large farm-style “Plaasdam” pool, and an indoor heated pool

A kids’ playground, jumping castle, and putt-putt course

Volleyball, mountain biking, and open space for walking or jogging

Game drives and birdwatching for nature lovers

A big-screen TV in the entertainment area for sports and major events

You’ll need to bring your own gear for most activities – from bikes to balls – and it’s worth noting that there’s no WiFi and no pets allowed.

Shop & Supplies
There’s a small shop on-site selling the basics (like wood, charcoal, and ice), but for anything else, you’ll need to make the short drive into Brits (18km), where you’ll find supermarkets, restaurants, takeaways, ATMs, fuel, and other essentials.

Getting There
Access is easy with tar roads right up to the final stretch, followed by around 5km of corrugated gravel road. Conditions vary, so it’s best to check before you go – but the road is suitable for standard vehicles and typical camping setups.

Final Notes
No pets allowed
Good cell signal, but no WiFi
Malaria-free area

Whether you’re there for the birds, the game, the splash pool, or simply the wide open bushveld skies, Onverwags Vakansie Oord delivers a peaceful, well-run camping experience that’s close to home but feels like a real break from it all.
