Just 72 km from Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Addo Elephant Park is one of South Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations. Spanning across various biomes and extending to a marine reserve, Addo is the only park in the world home to Africa’s Big 7 — elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, Southern right whale, and great white shark.
Whether you’re seeking a thrilling game drive, tranquil hiking trails, or a relaxing break surrounded by nature, Addo promises an unforgettable experience for all types of travellers.
Wildlife and Activities
Addo is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The Main Camp offers an underground hide overlooking a floodlit waterhole — perfect for late-night game viewing and photography. The park’s guided day and night drives provide a chance to spot lions, hyenas, elephants, and more.
For hikers, the two-day Alexandria Hiking Trail in the Woody Cape section winds through ancient forests and unspoiled coastal dunes, with chances to spot dolphins and whales in the distance.
Self-drive visitors with off-road vehicles can explore the 4×4 trail, while families can enjoy the picnic site, kids’ play area, and interpretive centre. There’s also a holiday programme during peak seasons.
