Far from the maddening crowd, just 45 minutes from Johannesburg, set on the banks of the Vaal River below the Barrage, lies the tranquil abode of Yellow Fish Paradise. The 750 meters of river frontage provides both fast and slow runs flowing into large rocky pools with ideal eddies for holding both large and small mouth yellow fish, amongst other species common to the Vaal River system.
Yellow Fish Paradise is now not only a popular fishing venue. Patrons are now also enjoying the five self catering rondawels with its “on the river bank lapa” as a popular party venue for After-wedding parties, bachelor and birthday celebrations. The fact that a “all in stock” shop and well stocked liquor store exists on the premises with realistic prices adds to the convenience.
Yellow fish Paradise was bought by the present owners in 1980 and had no more improvements other than a 2 bedroom house, a dilapidated garage and a small bungalow. The property now comprises of 5 bungalows, several camp sites (with and without electricity), ablution facilities, braai facilities, play park for the children, swimming pool, putt-putt, a fully stocked shop, a fully licensed bottle store and a 5 bedroom house – occupied by the owner.
During the summer months, the temperatures reach maximums of 30 – 33 degrees, making this the ideal place for sunbathers. It does however get just as cold during the winters, but all the more reason to cuddle up around the camp fires. The rainfall season is usually around late December to mid January and then again late April to Mid-may.
There is lovely scenery and an abundance of bird life on the half a mile of river frontage. The waters are ideal for wading, just remember to wear old shoes and use a wading stick when wondering into the water. The yellow fish, bass and carp fishing is an absolute must for the fly fisherman.
There are separate ablution facilities for the gents and ladies with hot and cold water bathrooms, showers and also a wash-up facility for the washing of dishes. A general-dealer type store is available on the premises. It caters for a large range of grocery requirements such as selected cigarettes, milk, bread, rolls, refreshments, toiletries, cleaning materials, charcoal briquettes, firewood and fire lighters, braai packs, cold drinks, sweets, crisps and ice creams. Basic fishing equipment and a variety of fly-fishing flies are also available. On prior arrangement, special marinated braai ribs, wors, steaks and chops can also be provided.
A licensed liquor store is on-site to cater for your needs. Items available include beer, wines, hard tack, liqueurs and soft liquors, ice and ciders. For the not so keen fisherman, there is a miniature golf outlay, a swimming pool and also a kiddies play park for toddlers to teens structured close to the bungalows. A campfire / boma has also been built and rounds off the evening for those who wish to make use thereof to enjoy a social braai and singsong.
