Terms and conditions
Please note, when you submit your story and photos to enter our reader cover competition, that we don’t pay for them. The prize is the experience of being featured on the cover, and the enjoyment of going behind the scenes on a cover shoot. Families and/or friends who act as our cover models might receive gifts or vouchers from our existing advertisers and sponsors if these are made available for the competition. The selection process is at the sole discretion of the editorial team at Caravan & Outdoor Life magazine, based on who we feel our readers would most like to see on the cover. We will not enter into any correspondence about selecting the cover family, and we reserve the right not to feature any family on the cover in any particular month.

To assist us in our selection we might on occasion ask readers to get involved in choosing a family to feature, either as part of a select panel or through a poll on our website, Sometimes our cover shoot might feature sponsors’ products, from clothing and accessories to food, camping equipment and even motorhomes and caravans. The selected family will be informed exactly which sponsors are involved in the particular shoot and told whether they will receive any gifts or vouchers from the sponsors or our advertisers. The cover family will have the right to withdraw from the cover shoot at that point, in the event that they don’t want to take part for any reason. The shoot will be video-recorded for our website, and a short, edited video will be loaded onto our website through the YouTube platform. This will be branded with the Caravan & Outdoor Life logo and any sponsors’ logos.

All footage, images and text are exclusively for the editorial purposes of Caravan & Outdoor Life magazine and for promoting our magazine and website. We will not use (or sell or barter to any third party, agency, advertiser or sponsor) any of the images or footage taken during the shoot. If advertisers or agencies wish to use any such footage or images, then they will negotiate terms with you themselves. Shoots will normally take place in Cape Town and surrounding areas. Winners will be required to transport themselves to the shoot, as we cannot guarantee any transport. It is possible that future cover shoots might take place around South Africa, but logistically at the moment we cannot commit ourselves to this. If sponsors assist us, then we might in future offer the winners air, train or bus transport to the shoots, but the terms of entry currently are that the winners must get to the shoot under their own steam.

A date will be arranged for the shoot that is suitable to all parties. The cover shoot should take two to four hours, from arrival to departure. Caravan & Outdoor Life magazine is not responsible for the health and safety of families during cover shoots. Any obvious potential dangers or hazards that might exist will be highlighted to families before they agree to the shoot, and they will therefore undertake to attend and take part in the shoot at their own risk. It is an essential condition of entry that winners are happy to smile, laugh and have a whole lot of fun in front of the camera, as well as during preparations for the shoot. Say ‘cheese’!
