There’s a brand new caravan on the South African market.
Flying in under the radar of a company called Profibre Products – a specialist composite manufacturer of bus, truck and train components – the new Stealth Evo XR6 caravan was launched.
Caravan & Outdoor Life, together with a few selected dealers from Natal, Gauteng and the Cape, attended the official press launch of STEALTH CARAVANS, based in Pinetown (Durban).
The EVO XR6 is an upmarket 3-berth pop-top on-road caravan aimed specifically at the most popular size of caravan range, a gap left largely vacant by shenanigans going on in the industry of late.
The caravan has a length of 5 276mm (overall 5 300mm tip to tip), width of 2 399mm and height of 1 950mm (closed roof) / 2 100mm (open roof)
The model we saw at the launch had not yet been weighed to determine Tare, but with a GVM set at 1 500 kg, Stealth is estimating to have a payload of around 400 kg.
Priced at R285 000, the Stealth Evo XR6 is more expensive than other caravans in this size and category, but this can be justified when one considers the new method of construction – including the development of a brand-new chassis, a body made of composites (fibreglass walls), screws used for joins that go into special steel… plus a few other trade secrets such as the foam core used in the panels that does not absorb water!
The only wood used, apart from that in the furniture, is in the ribs in the pop-top roof to secure the ceiling to the fibreglass roof. Stealth Caravans will offer a three year water ingress and wood rot warranty, subject to annual servicing by an authorised agent.
Stepping into the EVO XR6, there’s a two-seater dinette area directly to your right in the back of the caravan. This area can be converted into a single bunk bed. A double island bed is situated in the front of the caravan, with bedside cupboards on both sides.
In the middle of the caravan inside, on the driver side is a big 158 litre fridge/freezer, and packing space on the passenger side.
Outside there is a kitchen on the passenger side near the nose, consisting of a two-burner gas stove, washbasin (with running water) and stainless steel work surface . To the right of the kitchen (above the wheel) is a fold-down hatch that creates more workspace, and behind which you’ll find a small storage space – including for your crockery and utensils.
The Stealth caravan EVO XR6 is set to be priced at R285 000, and will available at four dealers nationwide:
Loftus Caravans – Gauteng Randburg
Natal Caravans & Marine – Durban
Kempton Caravans – Gauteng Edenvale
Tygerberg Caravans – Cape Town
