The resort of the month: April/May 2020

Location: Rawsonville, Slanghoek, Western Cape

One thing you will enjoy is the pristine campsite with a backdrop of willow trees set in beautifully scenic surroundings.

The swimming pool is the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner.

We were blown away on our arrival at Slanghoek Mountain Resort, situated close to Rawsonville, as it is such a beautiful place established in a picture-perfect setting. Surrounded by the Slanghoek Mountains – that looks like a cutout from a landscape in an award-winning coffee table book – the Slanghoek campsite is certainly one of the most picturesque places I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing.

The main Slanghoek Road splits the resort between the top and bottom camps. The top section houses the main farmhouse with reception area, necessities and gift shop, a permanent tented camp, chalets, a function area, pool, and a jungle gym. The lower section encompasses the 15 intimate camping stands with their own private ablutions, a natural stream with a small suspension bridge, a jungle gym, and two swimming pools. Each camping stand has its own built-in braai area and electrical point. The private bathrooms for each stand are housed in a small Wendy house and have their own shower with hot and cold water, flush toilet, washbasin, and mirror for your convenience. The camping stands enjoy shade from the surrounding large trees, which cool things down considerably during the hot summer months. It was 38 degrees during our stay but the good shade ensured we stayed comfortable and a light breeze provided cooling relief. All the camping stands enjoy lush green grass. The pools at the campsite were crystal clear and we enjoyed swimming in the heat of the day. Slanghoek is the perfect camping venue for the entire family and there are lots of fun activities for children such as swimming, playing on the jungle gym, jumping on the trampoline, and making friends in a completely safe environment.

A typical view from the Slanghoek top camp, with the beautiful mountains as a scenic backdrop.

Slanghoek Mountain Resort certainly prides itself on a campsite that is manicured, spotlessly clean, and set in beautiful surroundings. This resort is a mere 114km and a short hour and a half’s drive from Cape Town, making it an easy weekend stopover. We will definitely be back.
