Aerodynamic advantage
The Torpedo is a great combination of caravan and tent trailer which only weighs 590kg (Tare) and can be loaded up to 750kg (GVM). The reduced aerodynamic profile of the Torpedo is perfect for extended towing with reduced fuel consumption. These days, fuel costs need to be heavily factored in when planning a trip and the Torpedo will offer just that.
Chassis fabrication
Skipper chassis are fabricated on site in Park Rynie, KZN South Coast and sent for hot dipped galvanizing. The galvanising is incorporated to minimise the effects of corrosion and increase the lifespan of the Torpedo.
Road handling & design
The Torpedo road handling is excellent, focusing on stability and it offers great stability in headwinds (road tested). Skipper has incorporated the aerodynamic teardrop design and viewed side on, it looks much like the profile of an aeroplane wing. The axle is higher than a standard 4×4’s rear diff, making the “middle mannetjie” easily negotiated and wheel track is the same as any standard SUV. Like all the other Skipper models, the Torpedo handles rough road conditions with ease.

Wheels & tyres
The Skipper Torpedo has the stylish and robust 14 inch aluminium mag wheels which come standard. The spare wheel and peg box is positioned on the front of the Torpedo and a large storage hatch is situated at the rear of the trailer with ample space for all your tenting, ground sheets, foldable table and camping accessories.
Torpedo tent & awning
The Torpedo uses a modular tent, giving the same comfort and space the other variants of Skipper are known for. The 2100mm x 3400mm Deluxe Awning is a very comfortable size that attaches to the side of the trailer with rope sections and walls to enclose it. A Rally awning can be zipped to the front of the Deluxe Awning and used as a verandah with optional shade cloth walls zipped on the side. Alternatively, the rally awning (1700mm x 3400mm) can be used to extend the tent and all walls are interchangeable. Another optional extra is the very handy overnight awning, perfect for those overnight stops or quick weekends away.
Sleeping arrangements
You have a choice of 2 single beds or 1 double bed. There is ample packing and storage space under the beds for all those extras you want to take along with you on holiday.
Lighting & plugs
The Torpedo comes standard with a 12V LED lighting system fitted and 2 interior lights fitted above the bedside shelves for reading. It has 1 exterior light fitted above the pull-out kitchen for cooking and prep convenience. For any electrical appliances, a 220V mutliplug is situated above the pull-out kitchen. More electrical points are inside for the fridge, appliances and charging cell phones.

Cupboards & storage
Opposite the entrance door are the cupboards which have the more convenient sliding doors fitted with plenty room for your clothing and other camping goods.
Towing legally
The benefit of the Skipper Torpedo is that it can be towed by those with a normal B driver’s license as the GVM is 750kg. This is great for those caravanners with a normal B license, as no upgrade to your license is required.
NEW UPGRADED Pull-out kitchen
New year and a new look, the Skipper Team are pleased to boast that one of the major improvements which they have implemented this year is their brand new kitchen slide out system. The popular pull-out kitchen is conveniently positioned with the ‘oh so easy’ self-locking draws as well as sliding doors on the cupboard, making it the perfect place to for your kitchen essentials. It stabilizes with a pull-out leg folded to the bottom of the cupboard. You can also extend the work surface with another smaller table that slides from the end. From the kitchen you can access your fridge/freezer from the outside and your crockery cupboard positioned on the entrance door. A space-saving, nifty wash line is fitted to the side of the Torpedo, which folds down whilst travelling.
Skipper’s long history
Skipper Tent Trailer owners, Robbie, his wife Jenny and their son Reinhart and his wife Charmaine have more than 100 collective years in the trailer and caravan industry. Any manufacturer that has been around that long must be doing something right. In light of their long history, they will be celebrating at the MacNicols campsite on the 22nd July 2023.
