Resort Review: Uithoek Nature Park

11297
VIEWS

Surrounded by mountains and beautiful plant life indigenous to the eastern Free State, Uithoek Nature Park is a relatively new caravan and camping destination.

Owner JL Mans started development of the resort facilities just over two years ago, and now boasts a lovely camp with 50 sites (30 of which are equipped with electricity and cold water taps). The water from the taps is drinkable, coming from a fountain and borehole.

Situated between Bethlehem and Fouriesburg, surrounded by the Witteberg Mountains, all the camping sites in the resort are on grass and most have big trees for shade. Portable braai facilities are available throughout the resort.

The newly-built ablution blocks have modern showers and toilets, and hand basins with hot and cold water. A swimming pool has also been added – a welcome treat for those scorching hot summer days (in contrast to the winter, when the farm has even had some snow!).

Uithoek Nature Park is the perfect place for caravanners and campers looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It’s “hidden away” between mountains and grasslands so typical of the eastern Free State.

After the development of the campsite, the resort has also expanded their accommodation options by building two chalets. A third chalet is under construction. The chalets are set against the surrounding hills between the rocks and indigenous fauna and flora.

There is a small shop on site, as well as two lapas with braai facilities. The lapas are great for gatherings and get-togethers around the fire, as well as to mingle with other campers and get to know like-minded camping enthusiasts.

For outdoor lovers who like to venture away from the comfort of their camping chairs, there are numerous activities available, such as game viewing, bird watching, 4×4, rock climbing, mountain biking, fishing (two dams with carp and black bass), zip-lining and base jumping.

The resort also offers amazing stargazing, since it’s set in far from major cities (Bloemfontein is 260 km to the west, and Johannesburg is 300 km north).
