The town of Plettenberg Bay, more commonly known as Plett, was established on the slope leading down to the Indian Ocean. This means that almost anywhere that you stay in this coastal gem, you are treated to spectacular views of either the bay or of the surrounding forests and mountains. And it is here that you will find The Plettenberg, A Forever Resort.
Because it is situated near the mouth of the Keurbooms River where it meets the Indian Ocean, you are able to enjoy the best of both worlds: you could choose to spend some time along the river, or to relax on one of the sandy beaches nearby. The Plettenberg has a spectacular view of the opposite river bank and the lush mountains that run along the river.
The resort itself has 116 caravan and camping sites, many of which are under the shade of aged Milkwood and Yellowwood trees.
There are two communal ablution blocks that are modern, clean and spacious – in fact, there’s everything a camper could want in the way of ablutions. Each bathroom has six toilets, one bath and four showers. There are also Porta Pottis, and facilities for you to dispose of the waste from your on-board chemical toilets.
Having grown up in the area, I was lucky enough to spend many holidays on the banks of the Keurbooms River, racing up and down in canoes on it, and splashing about in the water; that’s how I know that The Plettenberg is ideally situated for a family holiday, as well as offering many activities and entertainments.
The resort has a swimming pool, trampolines, jungle gyms, volleyball nets, a games room, a putt-putt course, and boats or canoes for hire.
