Resort Review: Mabalingwe Nature Reserve


Spread over more than 10 000 ha in the shadow of the majestic Waterberg Mountains, rich in bird- and animal life (including the Big Five), this malaria-free resort is an easily accessible treat for residents of Gauteng’s major cities. The park boasts 70 paved stands, each with a 220 V power point and access to running water.

There are three ablution blocks, one of which has been recently upgraded. Other facilities include the laundry and scullery, heated and cold swimming pools, and a children’s playground. There’s also a convenience store, stocked with all the necessities. No pets are allowed.

Other facilities at Mabalingwe include ATMs, a petrol pump, a liquor store, the Tshukudu Restaurant, Kalahari Oasis, and Skilpaddop shop. There is a variety of activities available, including game drives, bird drives, lion feeding and horseback safaris. You can also enjoy sitting at a waterhole watching the game. Attractions include two heated pools, six cold swimming pools, two tennis courts, a putt-putt course, a squash court, a games room and a sauna. Mabalingwe also caters for the more adventurous guests, with archery and 4×4 trails.
