Resort Review: Fairhills Caravan Park & Camping Resort

Fairhills Park Caravan & Camping Resort, situated on privately-owned property in Ramsgate, KZN, was purchased in December 2014 by the Goodhead family. The property was a gem, a beautifully-wooded expanse. But the resort hadn’t been operating for a number of years and, although the gardens had been kept in good shape by the previous owners, the facilities and infrastructure were fairly run-down, requiring a lot of work to get them to an acceptable standard.

Richard and his wife, Samantha, run the park; Richard’s brother Stephen helps out when needed. I first met Richard early last year, and it was at that time that he showed me what they wanted to do. Their plans were to upgrade the main ablution block, turn the field below into campsites, and build an access road. Everything had to be ready for the Christmas holidays. What a transformation I found when I visited in December! Richard had met all his deadlines and the park has become the perfect place to spend a holiday.

An electric gate has been installed at the main entrance, the main ablution has been upgraded, and an all-weather road has been constructed down to the bottom field − where a small ablution block has been built to save guests the walk up to the main ablution at night. They’ve also built an office/ shop and a swimming pool, and installed a trampoline and a jungle gym.

After seeing what they’ve accomplished in the past year, I can’t wait to see the result of their exciting plans for the year ahead. They’re planning a laundry, a bamboo-style perimeter fence (for increased privacy), a larger children’s playground, more campsites and some log cabins in among the trees.
