Motorhome: Vista 3
Bought from: Vista Motorhomes, Strand
Is this your first motorhome?
No, my first campervan was a 1967 Ford Transit panel van which was converted to a motorhome by Cock’s Campers. It could sleep four, and had a fridge, stove, running water etc. We enjoyed it, driving many long trips; but, since the vehicle itself was old, we had the occasional breakdown, so we sold it and bought a caravan in its place. This we towed with a Ford 3.0-litre bakkie.
When did you purchase your new motorhome, and from where?
I bought a Fiat Ducato LWB panel van from Imperial Fiat in Kuilsriver in June 2013. Then we took it to Vista Motorhomes for the conversion.
What made you choose this vehicle? And what made you choose Vista for the conversion?
I liked the Fiat’s reduced road noise and its mechanicals; and it is also Vista Motorhomes’ donor vehicle of choice. I chose Vista because their layout and build-quality really impressed me. I’ve seen their advertisements in this magazine and on the internet.
Is your motorhome a custom-built unit?
What features did you add to your motorhome?
The Vista 3 comes standard with a double bed, bathroom with toilet, and shower and sink with hot and cold water. The kitchen has a 2-plate gas stove, fridge, sink and microwave. Both front seats swivel around to form a sitting/dining room with the table and a two-seater couch. The table can also be adjusted to form the base of a third bed.
I added a number of extras. A Fiamma awning, a freezer, an entertainment system with CD, DVD, TV and a rear-view camera and GPS. Then there’s the automatic satellite dish and decoder for DStv and two TVs; it’s just a pity that my rugby team is battling a bit at the moment…
