The Jongensfontein Caravan Park is the flagship of the Hessequa Municipality, and with good reason. It’s simply wow! This thickly grassed and tiered gem of a campsite is set right on the beach and offers everything you’d want in a holiday location – it’s as safe as houses. What’s more, there is not an electric fence in sight in Jongensfontein. The campsite itself is carefully manicured with power points and water close on hand. The stands are large and, given the surrounding beauty with sea views and blue skies, you’ll need to book early in season as this campsite bursts at the seams with holidaymakers. Six people are allowed per site and there are 115 sites. Bring your own braai and no dogs or motorbikes are allowed.
Jongensfontein Caravan Park has 18 self-catering chalets that are the perfect holiday escape, if camping is not your thing. Just remember to bring your own bedding. There is a jungle gym and playground with swings for the kids set mere metres from the beach, and there is a scenic beachfront walk for the whole family to enjoy. Have a look at the on-site museum and be amazed at the huge whale bones next to the museum. Keep an eye out for whales in season and the rock pools will be an endless source of enjoyment for the kids.
Chat to Lizette at reception and she’ll fill you in as to the many things to do in Jongensfontein. Don’t forget to catch up on a rugby game or grab one of the famous soft-serve ice creams sold at the Drie Pikkewyne beachfront restaurant, just outside the entrance to the campsite. Jongensfontein Caravan Park should be on everyone’s radar.
