Nestled along the banks of the Tugela River in the Northern Drakensberg, Hlalanathi Berg Resort has become a popular destination for family vacations.
Boasting 19 fully equipped self-catering chalets, a golf course, and 55 electrified campsites, the resort offers a variety of accommodations and activities, making it a favorite among visitors.
The history of Hlalanathi dates back to 1932 when the farm was owned by Johannes Van Rensburg. Initially a sheep farm, it faced financial strain after a devastating drought in the 1950s. Hans Van Rensburg, Johannes’ son, decided to open the land to tourists who flocked to see the iconic Amphitheatre and Tugela Falls. By 1983, Jack Van Rensburg began transforming the land into the resort it is today, and in 1997, his son Craig Van Rensburg continued the family legacy, ensuring high standards of hospitality.
The campsites are set under Acacia trees on lush green lawns.
Known for their sparkling clean ablutions, campers can enjoy hot showers or baths. Superior sites feature private ablutions and kitchens, and some even have a Lapa.
