Old “trailer” new car

    :(
I hitched a trailer (Weca Carrier) to my new Audi A3 and an error was reported on the vehicles instrument cluster: “Right Rear trailer lamp faulty ”
All lights are burning as is normal.
Audi indicates that their vehicle is good.

    Any suggestions?

    Hey Andrevanv :)

Some vehicles are equipped with CAN bus systems that are highly sensitive to any unusual voltage draws. A CAN bus system is a message-based protocol that allows micro controllers and electronic devices to communicate with each other. This system monitors voltage regularities and as soon as something out of the ordinary occurs it generates a message via a warning light on the dashboard.

Chances are the Wecca carrier has not been connected correctly to the vehicles wiring loom. The vehicles handbook might warn you against bridging into the tail lights directly. LED type trailer lights – which draw such a low current – can also have this effect on a vehicles wiring system.
