Celebrating at Salt Rock

On 16 February 1957, we were married in Durban and transported to Chaka’s Rock Hotel by the owners Eric and Joan Courtis, (who were guests at our wedding) where we spent our honeymoon.

Over the years that followed, we spent a number of anniversaries at the hotel, until it was sold to a timeshare developer. Eric started Natal Caravans and Marine, and we purchased a tent from him, and spent many holidays at Midmar Dam and Salt Rock Caravan Park with our young family.

When our family had completed their schooling, we were able to enjoy our Salt Rock sojourns in February to celebrate our anniversaries year after year; and so, here we are again having enjoyed a Sunday lunch with family and the second generation Courtis’ owners of Natal Caravans & Marine, Brian and Jill, andMike Courtis and Lynette who are our caravanning companions for the two weeks that we are here.

What a wonderful privilege and blessing it is to be here, still going strong as caravanners and sharing this celebration day with such special family and friends, not forgetting Trudie and Piet Grobbelaar, the hard-working and ever-helpful managers of the park for the past 15 years.

It is with sadness that we bid them farewell and wish them all the best as they leave to retire in Jeffrey’s Bay.
