Loch Maree Guest Farm – Kalahari, Northern Cape

Located in the vast expanse of the Kalahari Desert, amidst the dusty red plains of the Northern Cape, Loch Maree Guest Farm offers adventurers a welcome oasis.

The camps are unfenced, so you are truly at one with nature with the veld right on your doorstep, with a thousand hectares of game reserve to explore and horizons that seemingly stretch forever beneath big skies and fiery sunsets.

Loch Maree offers various accommodation options, including a Family Suite, Field Camp, and Bush Camp.

The number of sites in the Bush Camp is “unlimited”, since it’s in the open veld. There are no power points, but shared facilities include 2 showers (donkey for hot water, wood included) and 1 flush toilet.

The Field Camp has 3 huts and 10 campsites with ablution facilities, 4 showers and toilets. There is also 220v and 15 amp electricity. Other facilities include a fully equipped field camp with 2 showers and 2 toilets and wood included

For those who want something more comfortable, Lock Maree offers a luxurious Family Suite with a swimming pool at your doorstep. Dinner is provided on request, so come and enjoy friendly Kalahari hospitality with your hosts.

The beautiful tree and savannah veld of the Kalahari has a rich birdlife, with colonies of social weavers busily constructing their haystack-like nests. Here, you can also find sand-grouse, vultures, eagles, falcons and the striking Southern Yellow Billed Hornbill.

South Africa’s national emblem, the Springbok, can also be seen roaming the hot sand, as well as the rare Scimitar Oryx, which formerly inhabited the whole of North Africa, but has been classified as extinct in the wild.

You can also watch the antics of the delightful meerkat; the Kalahari being the place where British television series, Meerkat Manor, was filmed.

Come take in the scenery and wildlife on a game drive; or enjoy sundowners with a braai and fall in love with the magnificent panoramic view of the red Kalahari dunes and contrasting white salt pan.

The beautiful unspoiled wild of the Kalahari is a land where you can truly lose yourself – and find yourself at the same time.
