The wild horses that freely roam the wetlands of the Rooisand Nature reserve just 5km outside of Kleinmond, in the Overstrand-area, decided to venture closer and closer to the town’s main beach and left many locals surprised this morning (21 May 2020) when they were spotted during the Covid-19 Level 4 exercise time period. The wonderfully named Vatikaki Bush Camp is situated on Bakenskloof Farm, owned by Reenen Kritzinger and his wife Tracey and three kids. Created by Reenen and five friends, the group cleared a great camping site on the banks of the river. He later joined an informal bunch of 4×4 enthusiast called the Vatikaki 4×4 Adventure Club. The Vatikaki bunch so enjoyed camping at Bakenskloof farm, one of their members welded up a huge rocket-like donkey boiler for the camp. Champagne by the River Campsite and Cottage accommodation is a fruit farm with a private campsite and a cottage on the Zonderend River. Situated 15 km from Greyton and 32 km from Caledon in the Western Cape, and hour and a half drive from Cape Town. Khomeesdrif is a tree-shaded, grassed caravan and camping site on the banks of the Riviersonderend river, at the foothills of the Sonderend Mountains. There are 40 grassed sites, mostly shaded. The Greyton EcoCamp & Caravan Resort is situated on the confluence of the small Gobos River the larger Sonderend River that originally had its source in the foothills of the Franschhoek Mountains.
