A tranquil and secure resort away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, where you wake up to the sound of birds… welcome to Paradise. By Brian Jefferies Paradise Holiday Resort was bought in July 1983 by Laraine and her late husband Ron, together with partners Anne and Mac. At the time, it was a rundown caravan park that was open only twice a year during April and December. After they had been open for 2 weeks, the Caravan Club of SA came and removed its plaque, as the park was below standard. One month later they restored…

It is nice to see a resort like Richards Bay Caravan Park, which is already a popular seaside holiday destination, continue to upgrade. It’s no surprise that Richards Bay achieved 3rd place (KwaZulu-Natal) in our Readers’ Resort of the Year 2016 awards. Set in an ever green lush environment with excellent weather, perfect for families and pensioners all year round, the campsite has in the past year improved even more by adding new facilities such as their “big five” hall with an entertainment bar, and a games room with an adjoining TV room for those who want to watch sports…

Bahati Caravan Park & game Farm is located in the very popular region of Northern KwaZulu-Natal, just outside the town of Hluhluwe. By Brian Jefferies The caravan park, a family-run establishment, has been completely upgraded by the new owners, and I recently had the privilege of being one of the first to stay there and enjoy the new look. I was very impressed with all the improvements they had done, compared to what it was when I saw it a couple of years ago. Being located on a privately owned game farm in bush environment in the heart of Zululand,…

Fairhills Park Caravan & Camping Resort, situated on privately-owned property in Ramsgate, KZN, was purchased in December 2014 by the Goodhead family. The property was a gem, a beautifully-wooded expanse. But the resort hadn’t been operating for a number of years and, although the gardens had been kept in good shape by the previous owners, the facilities and infrastructure were fairly run-down, requiring a lot of work to get them to an acceptable standard. Richard and his wife, Samantha, run the park; Richard’s brother Stephen helps out when needed. I first met Richard early last year, and it was at…

This month our featured resort reviews include Pine Forest Holiday Resort in Ceres and Beehive Caravan Park in KwaZulu-Natal. Pine Forest Holiday Resort. (Dennebos), Ceres Review and photos by Kobus Botha I recently went back to Dennebos after probably 15 years, in a motorhome for the first time. We arrived at the camp around 16:15 on a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon in November, checked in at reception, and went in search of the best campsite we could find close to the ablution block. The trees were so lush that we could see hardly any light coming through the branches, so…

Prairie Park is situated at Southport on the KZN South Coast. Pete and Bev Budd took over the park in the middle of last year and have been upgrading it ever since. On my recent visit I couldn’t believe the difference they’d already made, firstly by cutting back the overgrown bush while ensuring visitors still enjoy the benefit of nice shady sites. Review by Brian Jefferies South coast comfort They’ve also created a boma for bonfire evenings, tackled lots of painting and general cleaning jobs, upgraded the communal braai area and put in a pub. The kitchen has been upgraded…
