At the 2025 Caravan Show, Roadtrippers made a bold statement with its lineup of expedition-ready 4×4 motorhomes – ranging from van-based campers to immense 8×8 truck builds. Known for their bespoke approach and full in-house production, Roadtrippers caters to travellers planning long-term overland journeys, both in Africa and beyond.

All models in the range are designed from the ground up for extreme durability, with separate chassis and living modules that ensure structural integrity on rough terrain. This modular construction, rather than using a single integrated shell, helps preserve alignment and internal fit-outs during long periods of off-road travel, especially under harsh conditions. Whether it’s a compact 4×4 van or a 6.2 m expedition truck, each build is designed to withstand months – even a full year – of off-grid use.

Customers can choose from six to eight standard layouts, including island beds, French beds, and a variety of dinette, bathroom and kitchen configurations. Each unit is then customised to individual needs, with Roadtrippers offering full control over cabinetry, flooring, exterior colours (paint or wrap), and other finishes. All cabinetry is built with lightweight ply, one of the lightest materials available in the motorhome space, and only real leather is used for interior upholstery – adding a premium touch without sacrificing resilience.

Production takes place entirely at their 11 000 m² facility in Cape Town, which houses a staff of around 50 and covers everything from fibreglass and aluminium work to CNC cabinetry, metal fabrication, laser cutting, and spray painting. Nothing is outsourced – even the smallest structural and visual elements are handled on-site, allowing for precision and consistency across every build.

Despite the sheer size of some of their vehicles – including truck-based overlanders – Roadtrippers say all units are licenced in a way that avoids the need for a PDP or Code 10 licence. This means any standard licence holder can legally drive even their largest models, eliminating one of the biggest barriers for buyers wanting to step up to expedition rigs.

With builds tailored for long-term travel and full-service manufacturing under one roof, Roadtrippers offers a rare combination of rugged overland capability and complete customisation – for those who want to take the road less travelled and stay there for a while.
