Chevrolet Trailblazer 2.8 LTZ 4×4 AT
The love affair with the red Chevy Trail began from the moment we hitched up the caravan in Cape Town and headed up the N1 towards Sutherland. On first sight the Trailblazer turns heads.
Inside, from the moment the electrically controlled front seat was adjusted for my large frame, I felt safe and at home.
The next thing I noticed, or rather failed to notice, was that I was towing a reasonably heavy caravan. With the smooth power and torque of the turbo-charged 2.8l Duramax diesel motor, towing is faultless.
As we headed up the highway, Brian remarked, ‘The quality of the trim on this car is great…’ The top of the range LTZ had full leather upholstery.
I had already picked up that there was a Side Blind Zone Alert on both the side mirrors, which will warn you if there’s somebody in your blind spot.
Brian grabbed the leather-bound operating manual… the Chev had Forward Collision Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and a whole lot more.
What I really enjoyed on this trip was actually using all these features that made driving both safer and a lot more fun. Like low range and Hill Descent Control on Ouberg Pass, these features really work. I also got to really use all the controls on the steering wheel. From the built in GPS, speed control, music and cellphone – everything in this car is at your fingertips.
There is tons of space available, with a host of options for the folding of the 2nd and 3rd row of seats. As photographers, we both loved the Trailblazer.
