Hi
When I wanted to buy a similar fridge I went to campworld in Bellville. The elderly gentleman showed me the Kellerman he had there and said that he had switched it on the previous evening and that the small ice tray they give you had bearly frozen in the morning and advised me to buy a compressor fridge rather.Yes they do cost more but are much more effective. I used a 3 way fridge when we went to Namibia and it was just a glorified cooler box and to be honest a 5 day Coleman cooler box with ice worked 10 times better.

I use a 40L Kellermann. It is made locally by Snowmaster.
With a 3 way fridge never run it on 12V as it's useless. It runs best on gas but must be in a well vented shaded area & must be level. Kruger in Dec was in the 40+ °C temp range. Leaving home I ran the fridge for 3 days, only put cold foods into it & run it on an inverter on our 10 hour trip to KNP. From there it ran on gas for 6 days. It was more than adequate for keeping milk, veggies etc chilled. Do not however try to use this to keep meat frozen. In the bush its ideal. However if you camp where you will always have 220V power rather go compressor type as this way you will use it as either a fridge or freezer. _________________ Mark L

My van has the small 3 way fridge. I run it on 220 and load it immeadiatley with unfrozen meat and the basics for about 3 days before departure. This is at it's normal temperature setting. When travelling I run it off the towing vehicle on 12 v. Towing times are for 6-10 hours at a time. Have had no problem with defrosting etc., even in the KNP and Karoo areas with temps up at + 35 C. I Use the gas on the odd occasion and when the 220 is off and to keep the the system clean.
It is critical that the van is level in both planes and the better the flow of air at the rear of the fridge, the better it works. |
